Player Expectations
- The Banshees believe that fun and safety should come first. Winning is not the most important consideration. Banshee players are asked to act in accordance with this belief.
- Have a positive attitude on and off the ice during Banshee functions.
- Demonstrate teamwork and good sportsmanship. Be a team player and get along with your teammates.
- Be generous with praise, not critical of your teammates.
- Work to improve your skills and help your teammates improve their skills.
- Learn the rules as defined by USA Hockey and play by them during practice, scrimmage, and games.
- Be respectful of your coaches, teammates, opponents and the officials. Do not argue with an official’s decision during scrimmages and games.
- Do not verbally or physically abuse a coach, player or official in front of them or behind their back.
- During practice, refrain from talking to other players while the coach is talking. If you do not understand what the coach is explaining, please get the coach’s attention then or after he/she is done talking.
- During practice, if you are familiar with a drill, please move to the front of the line to help demonstrate it to other players. If you are unfamiliar with a drill, please move to the back of the line to watch before it is your turn. If you are still uncomfortable with the drill, please ask a coach.
- Do your best to be on time for practices. If you arrive late, do not disrupt the flow of practice.
- Arrive for games at least 30 minutes before start time. Be ready to take the ice on time for warm-up to prepare for the game and prevent injury.
- Be courteous and thoughtful of your teammates’ ice time. Skate short, hard shifts.
- Consumption of alcoholic beverages and illegal substances is discouraged prior to practices, scrimmages, and games due to safety considerations and impaired playing ability.
- Please refrain from using the Banshee email distribution list for personal communication not related to hockey. Contact the Communications Coordinator for any exceptions.
Coach Expectations
- Have a positive attitude
- Start practices on time
- Lead coach utilize practice plan
- Rotate lead coaches
- Only lead coach is expected to attend Friday morning practices. Assistant coaches are welcome.
- Lead coach utilize assisting coaches
- Assistant coaches participate in one-on-one instruction with individual players during practice
- Utilize as much ice as possible during practice
- If needed, during novice practices, split the ice between novice and beginner skaters
- Perform chalk talk sessions as scheduled by the Banshees board
- Include some cardio in practice plans – the Banshees like a workout!!
- Please contact the lead coach if assisting coach cannot make it to a Sunday practice
